Scientific name – Mytilus edulis There are two types of mussels processed at Connemara Seafoods, the rope cultured mussel and the bottom cultured mussel.
Rope cultured mussels
Seed attaches naturally to suspended ropes from which harvesting takes place after two years. These mussels undergo grading, purification, cooking and freezing in preparation for export.
Connemara Seafoods processes rope cultured mussels for value add products.
Bottom cultured mussels
Seed mussels are placed on our own licensed sites by our own boats and harvested when the mussels grow to a marketable size. The mussels are then taken to our factory for processing and onward for Export.
Connemara Seafoods processes both the rope cultured mussels and the bottom cultured mussels for export markets. Both are packed to customer requirements.
